How To Use

Sterilizing Methods

When to sterilize? It is important to sterilize your menstrual cup before using it, at the start of each menstrual cycle and after the end of your menstrual cycle.

Why sterilize? Sterilizing removes debris and kills bacteria. This prevents you from getting an infection or irritation and keeps your menstrual cup in good condition.

How to sterilize? Here are 3 ways to sterilize.

  • Breeze method - 8 minutes
    1. Fill the Breeze Container with 150 ml water.
    2. Drop in the Cup Sterilizer tablet (menstrual cup sterilization tablet). It may smell like a swimming pool. Don't worry as it will do it's job to sterilize your cup.
    3. Once fully dissolved (~3 minutes), drop in the Breeze Cup.
    4. Allow the Breeze Cup to sterilize for 5 minutes.
    5. Shake excess water off the Breeze Cup before using.

  • Microwave method - >10 minutes
    1. Fill the Breeze Container with150 ml water.
    2. Drop in the Breeze Cup.
    3. Microwave the Breeze Container on high for 3-5 minutes, depending on your microwave power.
    4. Remove the Breeze Cup from the Breeze Container to cool down. Be careful of the hot water while removing the cup.
    5. Once thoroughly cooled, shake excess water off the Breeze Cup before using.

  • Boiling method - >15 minutes
    1. Bring a pot of water to boil.
    2. Insert the Breeze Cup into a whisk (if available).
    3. Place it in the boiling water for 5-10 minutes.
    4. Remove the whisk from the boiling water and allow it to cool down.
    5. Once thoroughly cooled, shake excess water off the Breeze Cup before using.

    Insertion Method

How to use a menstrual cup? For your first time, it is ideal to relax and have sufficient time to explore the various folding methods. In addition to the folding methods, some of the suggested positions for insertion includes squatting or standing with one foot raised on the toilet seat.

    One leg up stand
    Squat over toilet
    How to use

How to fold? Beginners may find the “Punch down” fold or the “C” fold the easiest to try, particularly the “Punch down” which has a smaller insertion point. Younger women or women having difficulty inserting the cup should also try the “Triangle” fold. Insertion and removal should never be painful and if you experience pain at any stage please stop and try again later when you are more relaxed. You may wish to experiment with various techniques before choosing the one you find most comfortable with. It is not ideal to practice a new fold when you are in a rush or stressed.

Now let’s get down to the folding methods, here are the top few folds.

    • C” fold
      1. Hold cup with both hands just underneath the rim.
      2. Flatten the rim as if you’re squeezing the cup.
      3. Fold lengthwise into half to create the “C” shape.
      4. Insert cup from the middle point of the C and wiggle the cup upwards.
      5. Twist the base of the cup 360° to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal.

    • Punch down” fold

      1. Hold cup at its base with 1 hand.
      2. Place your index finger on the cup's rim.
      3. Punch down the rim towards the base.
      4. Insert the cup from tip.
      5. Nudge & twist the base of the cup360° to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal.

    • Triangle” fold

      1. Hold cup with both hands just underneath the rim.
      2. Flatten the rim as if you’re squeezing the cup.
      3. Take one corner of the cup and fold it down towards the base.
      4. Insert the cup from the tip.
      5. Twist the base of the cup 360° to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal.
    •  Origami” fold
      1. Hold cup at its base with 1 hand.
      2. Place your index finger on the cup's rim.
      3. Punch down the rim halfway towards the base.
      4. Take one corner of the cup and fold it down towards the base.
      5. Insert the cup from the tip.
      6. Nudge the base of the cup to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal.
    •  Half Diamond” fold
      1. Hold cup with both hands just underneath the rim.
      2. Fold widthwise into half.
      3. Take the left and right corners and push them towards the middle until they touch.
      4. Fold lengthwise into half.
      5. Insert the cup from the tip.
      6. Nudge the base of the cup to ensure the rim opens up and creates the seal.

      Removal Method

When to remove or empty menstrual cup? Everybody bleeds differently, different amount, different time. Below is a general schedule that should be adjusted to your own body.

      "When to Empty" Schedule
      • Day 1 & 2 (heavy day) - remove/empty your cup after 4-6 hours (can be adjusted once you are used to your flow).
      • Day 3 (medium day) - empty within 6-8 hours
      • Day 4 - 5 (light day) - empty within 12 hours

How to remove? After washing your hands with soap, find a good spot to remove, usually over the toilet bowl or near the shower hole. If there is no bidet available, you can fill up the Breeze Container with water for rinsing purposes.

In the similar position when you insert the cup,

      • Locate the stem of the cup.
      • Gently pull the stem downwards to move the base of the cup closer to your opening.
      • Here goes, with your thumb and index finger, pinch the base of the cup to release the pressure/suction and pull out the cup.
      • Empty it out and rinse with water.
      • It's ready to be inserted again. There's no need to sterilize your cup every time you empty your cup. Just sterilize the cup after the end of your menstrual cycle.

How to clean before inserting again? Just empty it out and rinse with water. Don't need to sterilize again.
